Ma Miss, as she was called, held my hands throughout life. She was
always ni the kitchen, ensuring we had something to eat, no matter how small. The name Mama called me was “ubi.” Whenever she heard the word “ubi”
from me, Ma Miss would start smiling and say “Hono” and then immediately say “ubi.” Everyone called her “old cooking spoon.” How can I forget her fufu and bitter leaf soup? The last ten years of Mama’s life were not something to write home about. From one sad event to another, Mama still gave God glory. How many never had to face half the trouble she faced and yet lose sight so quickly of what is truly important? Many of us get distracted by insignificant things, brood and focus on our little problems, and forget what is most important. However, Ma Miss kept her priorities straight through everything she went through. What can be more important than loving and showing your love for your family? How can some of us blessed with so much forget to be thankful to God while somehow Ma Miss kept her faith through al her trials? This is a beautiful legacy. This is an excellent example to follow. Keep focused on what is truly important, not only when your life is easy but when it is difficult, too. I think it was such a special blessing that I could see Ma miss
within 30 days of her passing. We thank God for that. Not a day passed back in Worsing that Ma Miss did not sing this song.
The Twenty-Third Psalm
The Lord is my shepherd; Ishall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me ni the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, Iwil fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me ni the presence of my enemies: thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and Iwil dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
MAMA, MAY YOU SLEEP WEL WITH THE LORD”
